Scan & pay: pay an invoice by its QR code
Many European invoices carry a payment QR code. Scan it in Sapthan Pay and the whole payment fills itself in: no typing IBANs, no typos.
Sapthan Pay is in pre-release testing. Right now it connects to test banks in a sandbox and no real money moves. Join the waitlist to be first in when it opens.
How to use it
- Tap Scan & pay on Home.
- Point your camera at the QR code on the invoice. Use the torch button in dim light.
- The payee name, IBAN, amount and reference appear on the payment screen. Check them.
- Choose which linked account to pay from, then approve at your bank as with any SEPA payment.
Which QR codes work
Sapthan Pay reads the EPC QR code, the European Payments Council standard for SEPA credit transfers, also known as GiroCode. It's common on invoices in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland and elsewhere.
Other kinds of QR code, such as website links or shop loyalty codes, are not payment codes, and the app will tell you so rather than guess.
Why it's safer than typing
- No mistyped IBANs or amounts.
- The reference is copied exactly, so the company can match your payment to the invoice.
- You still see every detail before approving, and your bank asks you to confirm.
Privacy
The camera is used only while you're scanning, the code is read on your phone, and images are not uploaded. Camera access is optional and can be turned off in your phone's settings.
